A K Nicholas Artist Bio:

The art of A K Nicholas is a journey without a known destination. It is an exploration and celebration of beauty. A K Nicholas was born in the United States but was raised in the Middle East. He has always been interested in visual expression, and as a second generation artist was exposed to galleries and museums in dozens of countries. His subjects are fictional residents of a parallel world, much like our own, frequently more beautiful, more interesting, and sometimes more frightening. The artwork is exploratory, a pastiche of borrowed cultural perceptions and glimpses into an alternate reality that is tantalizingly close. The artist both pays homage to and challenges traditional ideas of beauty. Unapologetically, the artworks are a particular perspective of beauty. Limited edition prints are signed, numbered, and available in a single size for each image. They are strictly limited to the quantities specified and will never be re-issued. Impression numbers shown are examples; particular impression numbers within an edition cannot be guaranteed. Nicholas has a B.A. in Art from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. His first gallery sale was at age nineteen and his work is in private and institutional collections across the United States as well as various countries from Australia to Belgium. He has won awards and recognition throughout his education and career for his creativity and nonconformity. He prefers to think of himself as a maker of images; accepting the label of “art photographer” as clarification of the medium and mode of operation. He feels the best images leave the viewer either unsure or unconcerned as to the actual medium or process by which they were produced. He never intends his photographs to be a technical tour-de-force. He hones his craft only to the degree necessary to convey a message. When producing art there is no requirement to follow rules, be predictable, or appeal to a mass audience. By design, the images appeal to a select group of viewers. One of the most exciting things about any creative work is the discussion that surrounds it. Success is drawing the viewer in and engaging them emotionally or intellectually, whether that response be positive, negative, or inquisitive.
