Adriana Gotowiecka Artist Bio:

The themes of my work are many and varied over the years, my paintings are triggered by someone or something I experienced in life, although then might take me years for everything to come into place like an art map of my personal life. My work resonates with the feminist belief of the political as well as personal in ‘Free the Nipple’ equality campaign, supporting feminine body equality and empowerment through art to defeat female body oppression and archaic censorship laws in my ‘MA PHILOSOPHIE’ 2013-2014 acrylic canvases as well as in ‘TURNING INTO YOU’ sketches and drawings seen in artworks on my webpage: www.adrianagotowiecka.com - like Tracy Emin, I express different aspects of both the feminine psyche and life itself in unpredictable ways. My latest ‘THE BEST OF HER’ 2015 triptych collages are about the rite of passage that addresses complexities of being a woman, with the light note and dash of mischief between the lines. The same year I also turned my attention to representational painting in my ‘ONLY WE KNOW’ series. I used flowers & fruit as subject matter presenting the sexual anatomy in sharp focus, expressing hidden ways of portraying my encounter with three Hollywood's leading men in my life - Like Georgia O’Keeffe, I interpreted my abstractions as expressions of sexuality by drawing attention to the inherent androgyny of this subject. I enjoy the lack of any rules in art and painting which makes my work free flowing, uninhibited, bold and colourful. I have worked in many mediums over the years but I love the freedom of big, bold, tactile finger-strokes and multilayering that acrylic allows therefore acrylic is my main medium. I also like to work with paper, acrylic pens and paint-spray enjoying making a collage or paint a whole canvas using only sprays. Every picture has a significant story from my life almost in a provoke way. Deciphering my art is probably like unravelling my most private thoughts and feelings looking at it in a Rorschach way. It is like on the canvas I am chasing the real in human, man/woman interactions and portrayal of a 21-century woman. "My work is very autobiographical but portraying myself on a canvas is a difficult place to be sometimes." ¬ Adriana Gotowiecka
