Andrew Bret Wallis Artist Bio:
I live and breath image making... taking inspiration from Nature and the spiritual energy of the natural world around me. I am passionate about conservation and preserving our beautiful natural surroundings to inspire future generations. As a visual artist, I work with a variety of creative mediums, including, digital painting & illustration, location and studio photography, traditional watercolour & gouache painting, and pencil & ink drawing. I sometimes combine elements from several of these disciplines, as the finished image dictates. I have never been a purist; the end result is all that really matters to me. My more illustrative work is strongly influenced by the traditions of impressionism & pointillism (Claude Monet, George Seurat & Gustav Klimt). Based in beautiful Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, I derive much of my creativity from my local surroundings. Many of my paintings and photographs are inspired by my local landscape & artists - such as the poet Ted Hughes - whose inspired portrayals of this rugged Northern landscape accurately capture the essence of the natural world I have come to know and love. His poem "A Wind Flashes The Grass" holds some memorable lines which I refer back to again and again in my paintings: "And the incomprehensible cry, from the boughs, in the wind sets us listening for below words, meanings that will not part from the rock," & "The stirring of their twigs against the dark, traveling sky, is the oracle of the earth..." Although, my paintings rarely feature people, my natural landscapes seethe with human emotion: my solitary trees strive for spiritual awareness, faithfully embrace the stars, or brave the storms with strength and dignity throughout their hard life's journey. My woodlands and forests are brimming with secrets waiting to be discovered by the visionary explorers and dreamers in our society, whilst my snowscapes explore the transformative natural beauty of the Winter season, recognizing the need to cherish nature and the natural landscape that humankind all too often take for granted. The nightscapes I love to paint are never sinister or foreboding, but rather windows into the soul of mankind... full of faith, optimism, and a life-long yearning for knowledge. Represented by Getty Images in the USA as an international imaging artist, my work features on a broad range of brochures, magazine and book covers and some are also available for commercial license.
