AYELET SELA Artist Bio:
My name is Ayelet. I was born in Israel to a Yamane mother and an Austrian father. This combination/conflict between East and West dictates my paths in life and influence my aspiration to bridge conflicts and express my aspiration for harmony. I started painting relatively late in life, exploring it as part of a soul search and spiritual development. During my professional life I help several position in the communications are including as a speaker for a municipality, copywriter and a project manager for advertising strategies. I hold a BA in Philosophy from Haifa University and MA in Communications from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. My soul search brought me to the wonderful world of colors. My initial experience was exiting but not overly satisfactory. I therefore continued to develop my skills and sought additional technics and knowledge, through both formal classes and in art classes. My goal was to find the missing link between the world of colors and shapes and my inner world. During my journey I participated in an annual Anthroposophy seminar where I was introduced to a unique water coloring technique which, for me, represented the missing link between painting, color and shape on the one hand and the artist on the other. This annual seminar followed by courses in art therapy where I focused on and specialized in a method known as “painting by the seven methods of life”. For the last 12 years I am practicing this method and teaching it as well. For the last four years, side by side my art teaching, I am dedicating my time to oil painting and my first exhibit took place on the Sea of Galilee “Beit Gabriel” in March 2013. I am paining in oil colors, using many layers in a technique that is based on a constant movement, a “balanced 8 flow”. The flow allows the color to free itself from its mass and integrate into the canvas in a light and airy way. My paintings deal with the gap between two ends, with the contrast between the divine and earthly matter, the distinction between real and abstract. The subjects for my paintings are created throughout the work process, sometimes they crystalize in a very defined way whereas on other times they float in the air abstractly between two polars, seeking for balance between now and eternity.
