Ben Cavers Artist Bio:

My Work has so far been a process of self-discovery through the medium of paint. The painting and I go on a journey and the outcome that is produced will hopefully teach me how to become a better painter. My work has become focused towards ornaments and the beautiful banal. The objects are ways to navigate content issues and create new scenarios. Recently the scenarios are bordering on the edge of portraits and still-life images. This process often ends up with simplification of forms and in some cases the transference of context as the painting grows. As humans we make mistakes and being a human I am full of these. I use intuition and gut feeling to make mistakes and learn about the barriers of paint and the barriers of myself. In my practice the intuition is a visceral decision making process. The paintings can also be reactionary on earlier work and question the validity of my own practice. There are questions in my work of failure and success in painting. Often it feels like a failure but there can be some glimpse of hope cheering you on and in the battle between success and failure one must win or you have a mediocre painting. This process can often lead on to chances of serendipity and surprise me, which is one of my biggest desires with my paintings. I work in 3d when possible. I like to think of myself as a multidisciplinary Artist. I also draw regularly and also try to incorporate technology into my work when possible. I don't see technology as the answer but as an aid to the painting process. My goal is to become a fluid painter. I am committed to working towards larger paintings and a higher level of skill without losing my own mark. Artists which I am currently studying and aspire to are, Henry Matisse, Jacob Lawerence, Gillian Ayres, Iain Nicholls, Peter Lanyon, Frank Bowling, Matthias Dornfeld Howard Hodgkin, Tricia Gillman, Brice Marden, Mary Fedden and Graham Sutherland. http://bencavers.tumblr.com/
