CATHERINA KOUNINIOTI Artist Bio:
CATHERINA COUNINIOTI Born in Athens, Greece, I graduated from the Law School of Athens University and practiced Law, in the same city, for several years. Painting had always been a passion to me, since my primary school years. Nevertheless, my Art Studies came years later, when I decided to devote myself to Art completely. Thus, I started taking Art History classes at the University of Geneva and after that painting and drawing courses, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. As I married a diplomat, I had the chance to live in various countries and work in different ateliers of known painters. I worked and I presented my work in Athens, as well as in Geneva, Brussels, Paris and Stockholm. In 2004, following a French Senator’s offer, I presented 30 paintings in the splendid René Coty Room of the French Senate ( Palais du Luxembourg ) in Paris.. The exhibition, named « Endless Horizons », was put under the auspices of the President of the Senate, Christian Poncelet, and was inaugurated by Senators Daniel Goulet and Marc Massion, among 200 guests. In 2000, I was selected to participate to a special project named « Τhe vision of Europe in the 3rd Millennium », on the occasion of the entry of the Czech Republic to the European Union. The project was based on a conception of a « never-ending » scroll of canvas where 500 individual artists from different European countries presented their own ideas about the expanding Europe. The whole event had been put under the auspices of the President of the Senate of Czechia and took several years to be realized, as the canvas had to travel from country to country, all over Europe. It was expected to be the longest painting in the world and appear in the Guinness Book of Records. It is permanently exhibited in the Vojna Memorial Contemporary Art Museum in Pribram, Czech Republic. In 2005, after several personal and collective exhibitions in Athens, Paris and Stockholm, my painting “Rising in the air” has been auctioned in Stockholm, by Bukowski Stockholm Auktionsverket , the oldest Auction House in Europe. The painting had previously been presented to the public, journalists and art critics in a personal exhibition in Gallery 17, in Stockholm, in the presence of H.R.H .Princess Lillian of Sweden. The revenue was offered to the Research Foundation, “Doctors against AIDS”. My work can be found in different collections such as the collections of the Museum of the City of Athens and of Alpha Bank in Athens, Greece, the collection of the Czech Museum of Prinbran, in the Czech Republic, the collection of H.R.H. Princess Lilian of Sweden, as well as the collections of certain French Senators in Paris, France, and other various individual art collectors.
