catherine forsayeth Artist Bio:

'I am an Australian and trained for a year at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Graphic Design. After doing my Arts Degree in English and History at La Trobe University and Grad. Dip of Education I taught in Australia and internationally; Portugal Spain and India, traveling widely and rebuilding a school in Mozambique. I currently live and work in Vietnam. All of these experiences have been material for my work. I held a number of workshops in a variety of techniques including oil portraits for young people and adults. My art is narrative figurative and expressive. I am increasingly preoccupied with the use of metaphors and symbols as a means of expressing of the unconscious as I believe it is this process of unconscious or subconscious thinking that shapes our reality. As in my writing, I tackle the 'big' issues and use historical political or social paradigms as means of commentary. I have two styles which are expressed in two media; ink on paper and oil on canvas. The different mediums I use for making art are in service to my imagination and creative voice not vice versa so that people can't always predict whether it was a picture in the style of Forsayeth or not. I am not a press moulder, I am a creator. I have exhibited and sold in Australia and Europe in joint and solo exhibitions. I was commissioned for 14 paintings for a merchant bank in Melbourne, and sold commissioned portraits and other works. I have exhibited and/or sold in solo or joint exhibitions in Europe, Australia and China. Early next year I have an exhibition planned in Ho Chi Minh City. I am also a poet and writer and have 14 publications of short stories and poems in in collections in Australia.
