Cerj lalonde Artist Bio:

Cerj Lalonde moves smoothly from the canvas to the camera, from computers to installations, producing and showcasing an extraordinarily rich and complex body of work created during the last 30 years. His purpose is to pursue a direct, and, in each case, a different communication with the spectator. It can be said that Lalonde works as a team with himself, not only to develop his artwork, but also to sharpen his personal ideas about contemporary culture, trends... His paintings, installations, photographs and web pages, are intended to function each in its own way, as an overt revision and critique of the contemporary art system, as they establish parallel dialogues between the artist, the public, and the curatorial values. Invariably, however, when we have guests over, the artist whose work is singled out for praise and inquiries is Cerj Lalonde. His style is unique, and the effect is quite remarkable." Dr. Steve kerr Chief Learning Officer, Goldman Sachs __________________________________ Cerj Lalonde is an artist-philosopher. His paintings are created from intellectual concepts filtered through a flow of sensuality. Whereas the concepts are at the root of the composition of his works, the flow does not compete with one another. They support each other and thus give life to the artwork. The most striking aspect of Cerj's paintings is that these two sides of his creative gesture remain distinct and visible. Consequently, his works are always clear and understandable. They manage to avoid the danger of emotional exuberance as well as that of cold calculation. They exist by alliance rather than by synthesis. Since I used to see him frequently and followed his work closely, I must say his artistic technique offers a surprising continuity. In fact, his recent artistic production is an intensification of the visual concepts he has initially developed. Cerj Lalonde plays on several fields. He creates paintings of all formats reaching monumental proportions (26 feet x 17 feet). Then he uses all the latest data processing techniques to produce digital images, videos, and sounds used in his installations. Finally, and undoubtedly due to his training in psychology and anthropology, he completes many of his works by adding short texts evoking the observer's conscience. Lalonde's art lives according to its own rules. The abstractionist is the inventor of his own figuration. Colour is treated in all its intensity and affirms geometric spaces as well as gestural ones, and sometimes even drifts towards a bursted calligraphy. The "push-pull" practiced by the New York action painters is driven to extremes, even surpassed, in order to give his painting an enchanting chromatic and formal intensity. Actually, the more one observes Cerj Lalonde's art, the more one becomes subjected to the concentration they project. The technical procedures used by the artist objectify the painted subject, enabling the viewer to recognize the presence of a tangible object. The effective internal structure underlying Cerj's works shifts the observer's viewpoint from the formal to the informal and back. This is the very gesture which proclaims the creative and conceptual originality of the artist and provides for him a special place in the world of abstraction of our time.
