Charlotte Ritto Artist Bio:
In the series "Scenes" the empty sceneries refers to our collective understanding of evil. I am fascinated by evil. It repels me and attract my curiosity at the same time. So far I have been investigating evil through the medias, choosing some of the horrific stories we are confronted with every day. Preferably I choose a photograph that has been associated with the event as a starting point for my painting, I then paint the scene as I imagine it after the involved parties has left the scene, leaving it up to the spectators to fill in the missing action. The title of the work refers to the place where the evil took place and it gives a hint as to where in your memory to look for details. This approach gives room to reflect on all the questions evil attracts without pointing at any solutions. And the empty scenes points at that evil only takes place when people are involved. - The scenery itself is indifferent (or innocent you might say) to the actions commited. and each ation is based on personal choice I paint with rough strokes and watery ease. Trying to obtain a balance of letting go and taking control. I choose colours as to how they can communicate moods.
