born in 1975 at south africa daniel castanheira grown up in a portuguese baroque environment clashing with underground culture. fighting gypsies in childhood was important to realize that life can punch you often with no excuses. no need to figure out any nice explanation for what he's doing. his style was educated by punk and adult magazines. not giving a damn about that became he's main artistic reference. in this plastic repertoire, clearly placed in the underground scene, his own reflections are served with a critical purpose, thematizing social and political issues, almost in a parodic shape recurring to ambiguous icons of modern world spiced up with shots of humor and irony. deeply influenced by comics, all kinds of advertising and cinema, simple codes are materialized through a vision over the masses culture and the consumer society we live in, that turned man impersonal, materialistic, common, empty and slave of his own. www.art-media-castanheira.blogspot.pt www.facebook.com/daniel.castanheira.5 www.behance.net/castanheira
