DITA HAVLOVA Artist Bio:

I like this: "If people knew how hard I worked to reach my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all" (Michelangelo) And this as well: "Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do." (Edgar Degas) I was born, lived and studied art in Czech Republic, now I live in London UK. I've been drawing since I remember. My mum is saying that I was born with pencils instead of fingers as I even hold the fork like a pencil. Drawing is my passions. I've never stopped. I only changed focus and used to draw different objects or designs but it's always been about drawing and art. I've never had the need to become famous or sell my art for plenty of money. I love art, live art and use art to pass the message, my idea about this world. It's about what I want to say and how I want to say it. At one stage I just changed this path and started designing clothing and again is was about the design itself, about self-expression as I used to hand-paint all my dresses on silk. Now I am back to my roots as always admiring old Flemish masters of printmaking and etching, Hieronymus Bosch, Albrecht Durer, Czech Surrealists, Czech print makers and graphic artist Oldrich Kulhanek, M.C. Escher etc. the list would be quite long. Even though I used to use different colourful media in the past I've always preferred pencil and ink or ink pens. I love drawing lines, creating all shades of grey made by fine lines and crosshatching. At the moment my main objects of interest are animals and nature. As a vegan I feel very strong about their abuse by people. So, my last collection is dedicated to them. It's called Fragments. Besides this collection I still enjoy creating fantastic surrealistic creatures as addition to my Surreal collection.
