GABRIELA GIROLETTI Artist Bio:

Gabriela Giroletti (b. Brazil, 1982) lives and works in London since 2010 and soon will be graduating in Fine Art from Middlesex University (former Hornsey College of Art), an institution known for its investigational and liberal approach to art education. Curiosity is a core value of her practice. In a macro outlook it often echoes the ceaseless human characteristic of pursuing the unknown, the endless search for meaning in everything perceived by eyes, mind and body. This awareness pushes experimentation to a great level, driving her to a place where she refuses to be defined by a style; hence shifting is all that is definite. Regarding painting as an unquestionable multidisciplinary medium, she investigates its materiality and questions if its crafting can alone be considered a human experience. Between layers of paint and also through editing, drawing, covering and scratching she looks for things that can only appear when actually painting. Controlled chaos, fiction, deconstruction of personal narratives and space are all fluctuating within Gabriela’s practice, giving her paintings an abstract and autobiographic aura. In order to alter her routine of producing such intricate work she also devotes her time in analysing and illustrating botanical specimens as an attempt to look back at nature through a simplistic manner, accepting it as a stimulus in its own right. In contemporary art practice, painting is often seen as a thing of the past but her paintings incite the eye to stay a little longer on the subject, in an energetic attempt to slow down the fast environment we now inhabit. She has exhibited extensively in galleries across London and her work is held in private collections in London, Brussels and Taiwan.
