Gina Parr Artist Bio:

Exploring the balance of chance and control in the painting process has become increasingly important in my work and this marks the tension between how much I will allow to happen by chance, and my need to intervene and engineer the paint to control the developing relationship formed on the canvas, creating an atmosphere which draws on both landscape and my own journey. My intent is for my work to be both sublime and a bold moody stage, heavily influenced by my past work as a Production Designer for television and a childhood spent with a mother who was an undiagnosed hoarder. Understandably, I am now driven to create a sense of chimerical and ambiguous space in both my Painting and Photography, mapping the fine line between abstraction and scenic recognition. Working with acrylic and water based oil, I use palette knife, brush, sponge and cloth to add, scratch, wash and work the paint. I originally trained as a Fine Artist gaining a First Class Honours Degree in 1979, to which I returned full time in 2007, my TV Production Design credits span 27 years and include shows as diverse as The Brit Awards, Eastenders original design of Albert Square and it's interiors, Shooting Stars, The Royal Variety Performance and Mercury Music Prize, to name but a few. Several of my paintings were purchased for the permanent Art collection at Keble College Oxford in 2013. I am represented by Candida Stevens Fine Art London / Chichester, Cavaliero Finn London / Somerset, Brook Gallery Exeter, Renata Domitran Oslo / Copenhagen and Artdog London. Work has featured in Art and Design Magazine Tallulah, UK BBC series Holby City, David Hares Drama Worricker, The Independent and House and Gardens. My work is in collections worldwide, including the Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London and the President of the Boston Children's Museum. I live and work in the East End of London and my childhood home Devon.
