Painting: Acrylic, Gouache, Ink, Oil and Enamel on Canvas.
Original contemporary textured oil painting on canvas by artist Shelley Jamaine. This is a new original mixed media painting on canvas that I created in 2015 on the theme of nature, pattern, movement and organic shapes combined with industrial textures. This is one of my most detailed pieces I have made recently and it incorporates many contrasting patterns and textures, some are abstracted from life and some have been changed slightly to fit the painting. This piece is very detailed and has raised textured areas to represent rock surfaces and land. The surface of this painting is quite glossy in parts. There are also pink metallic glittery areas meant to represent water flowing and reflecting the light. I was also looking at the various and shapes found in electrical wiring whilst making this painting.( I draw from old electrical parts that I have collected in my art studio ). The detailed cluster of black and white in this piece is made up of designs I have partly drawn and partly painted. I am inspired by natural textures such as rough rock surfaces and tree branches. I like to use bright colours and bold shapes as found in nature combined with more industrial patterns and textures. This piece has areas of different patterns such as the grainy textured background parts and the red intricate lines and patterns. I enjoy working with different abstracted patterns as they create different movements when they are combined within a painting. Dimensions and Hanging Suggestions... The dimensions of this painting are 30 cm x 40 cm and the canvas is 4 cm deep. This painting is on a canvas stretched over a wooden frame so it could have a hanging device glued to the back such as a metal hanger or string or you could hang this painting on a nail in the wall. This would make a nice house warming present for someone in a new house who needs a bit of colour on the walls and this painting would suit a smaller room or an area of wall such as in a hallway or kitchen. The vivid pattern and detailed areas in this painting would appeal to children so this could be hung in a play room. This paining would be best hung somewhere where the detail can be seen close up such as near a desk or sitting area. The sides of this painting are painted black and this painting is also signed on the back. A bit about me... Originally from West Yorkshire, I have exhibited my art work nationally and I sell my art work both nationally and internationally. I work from my studio in Essex where I spend the majority of my time painting and planning my next works. Along with producing one off original pieces of various different sized and mediums, I have also done some large mural commissions. I studied Painting and Drawing at Huddersfield University, graduated in 2006 with a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting and Drawing, and I have worked as a professional artist ever since. I also studied textiles at Bradford College during my art foundation course and I feel this now feeds back into my work when I make my textile mixed media art works. I am inspired by decaying nature, bright colours and all things to do with the gothic subculture. I like to combine my favourite inspirations in an overall new gothic expressionistic art style, so much of my work has gothic symbolism or motifs such as skulls and skeletal shapes with bright contrasting colours. I like the contrast between these two opposing styles. I am particularly interested in natural forms and textures and the feelings they can evoke when used within contemporary art work. I like to imitate or embody these specific interests within my art works and I often to this within imaginary forest landscapes that I create. I also make finely detailed purely abstract paintings that are inspired by human anatomy, skeletal shapes, abstract expressionism and experimentation.
