Nadine Prada Artist Bio:

I'm a Toronto based painter who was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and moved to Canada at the age of 7. I've been exhibiting artwork internationally since 1999. I was practically born with a brush in my hand - I've been painting since I was a child. Perhaps due to my Island roots, I work most often with watermedia. (Such as fluid acrylic, applied in many layers to build up the surface.) It attracts me because of it's fluid, hard-to-control nature. You just have to let it flow. Random patterns emerge because the water creates its own way, its own movement that I must adapt to and work with and allow. It creates evidence on the surface, it shows where it has been, and what it has done. Painting for me is all about making a reaction happen. I am compelled to explore what the paint will do “if”. What will happen if I add rubbing alcohol, or tip the board, or spray more water into the surface at various stages. What will the paint do if I scratch it, layer it, scrape it away, heat it, force it to dry faster than it would otherwise. Or leave it alone, let it pool and walk away from it for hours, or overnight. It's all a journey, a discovery process. I am intrigued by natural processes and forces – erosion, gravity, evaporation, sedimentation, oxidation. Because of this, my work tends to feel naturalistic, organic, environmental, landscape-like. It contains a sense of place - whether an actual landscape, an abstracted one, an inner world or outer space. Through an “agreement” with water, through a type of planned chaos, I find random patterns that are unique, events that are frozen in paint. In 2012, I was named one of 50 Toronto "Artists you should know about" by piccsy.com
